Dentistry

History of the Department

The Department of Dentistry was established in June 2017 at Gokuldas Tejpal Hospital, Mumbai. The Out-Patient Department (OPD) is located on the ground floor of the main OPD building, adjacent to the Casualty Department.

For several years, the department functioned with Clinical Assistants who managed OPD services and performed dental procedures. A significant milestone was achieved in September 2024 when Dr. Resham Pakhmode joined as Assistant Professor and assumed charge as Head of the Department. The department currently comprises an Assistant Professor, Senior Resident, and Clinical Assistant.

The Dental OPD at Cama Hospital was subsequently entrusted to the G.T. Hospital Dental Team under the leadership of Dr. Resham Pakhmode and the guidance of Dr. Jitendra Deshmukh, Dean of Government Medical College and G.T. & Cama Hospitals.

Under the guidance of the then Dean, Dr. Jitendra Sankpal (currently Superintendent, G.T. Hospital), the department was upgraded with advanced dental equipment and a new dental chair. Soft Tissue Diode Laser procedures were introduced in April 2025, enabling minimally invasive periodontal treatments that provided faster patient recovery and reduced the need for local anesthesia.

The department further enhanced its diagnostic capabilities with the introduction of high-quality RVG (Radiovisiography) services following the installation of a new dental radiography machine in March 2025.

In addition to clinical services, the department actively promotes academic excellence and extracurricular activities, conducting various educational and professional development programs throughout the year.

Vision / Mission Statement

  1. The Department of Dentistry is committed to providing high-quality dental care with a focus on patient well-being, ensuring excellence in treatment rather than volume of services.

  2. The department follows a conservative treatment philosophy, emphasizing the preservation and restoration of natural oral hard and soft tissues, recognizing their inherent regenerative and reparative potential.

  3. In addition to delivering comprehensive dental treatment services, the department actively conducts preventive oral health and general health check-up camps, public awareness programs, academic activities, and scientific events that benefit patients, students, and healthcare professionals alike.
